Studying at Siena

Visas and Contacts with Embassies

EU Students:

Students from the European Economic Community (EEC) do not require a residence permit to study in Italy. The same applies to students from special-status countries such as Liechtenstein, Monaco, and Switzerland.

Non-EU Students:

Students from non-EU countries must obtain a valid residence permit for study purposes. Two types of visas are available.

Short-term study visa (up to 90 days):

Apply at the Italian Embassy or Consulate in the home country before traveling.

Long-term study visa (over 90 days):

If the stay exceeds three months, students must obtain a “Type D” visa and a residence permit upon arrival in Italy.

The procedure is:

  1. Visit an authorized Italian Post Office to complete the Type D visa form.
  2. Attend the appointment at the local Police Headquarters (Questura).
  3. The office will record the applicant and issue the visa.

Note: The Fondazione Siena Jazz cannot act as an intermediary but will provide the necessary documentation confirming enrolment.
