Siena Jazz is launching the first PhD program in Languages of Improvisation in Contemporary Music (a.y. 2024/2025 – 40th cycle), following accreditation by the Italian Ministry of Universities and Research (MUR), decree no. 1413 of August 27, 2024.

| Admission process | Assessment of academic and artistic qualifications, evaluation of the research project, and oral interview. |
The program will be structured according to the following principles:
- focus on disciplinary and thematic areas relevant to national needs in high-level expertise and innovation (in line with PNRR objectives);
- include the full doctoral pathway—training, research, and evaluation—across the consortium institutions, with study and research periods at Accademia Chigiana and abroad;
- require 6–12 months of study and research in industry during the three years;
- require 6–12 months of study and research abroad (continuous or split);
- guarantee access to qualified facilities for research and study;
- provide advanced training in languages, IT, research management, European/international research systems, intellectual property, and research valorization;
- Promote open dissemination of research outcomes according to “Open Science” and “FAIR Data” principles.
