July 21 – 24: COMPOSING & ARRANGING

Writing and arranging workshop for Medium Jazz Ensemble (7 meetings of 3 hours in 4 days)

Writing and Arranging Workshop is aimed at practical activities (arranging planning of an arrangement, writing for jazz ensemble, score and parts writing, managing and conducting ensemble rehearsals). No theory lessons will be held.

Morning session: 10.00 – 13.00

Afternoon session: 16.00 – 19.00

July 24 – 26: PERFORMING

Ensemble Music Workshop for Medium Jazz Ensemble (approx. 15 elements) (5 rehearsal sessions of 3 hours and final concert)

The Ensemble Music Workshop for Medium Jazz Ensemble includes the deepening of executive and interpretative aspects of the jazz orchestra: (pronunciations, ensemble dynamics, articulations, formal orientation, extemporaneous aspects) thanks to the fundamental experience of playing in orchestral sections under an expert direction.

Morning session: 10.00 – 13.00

Afternoon session: 16.00 – 19.00

26 July at 9.30 pm: final concert.

Cost and registration procedures

To register as an instrumentalist, fill out THIS registration form and write to info@sienajazz.it, the secretariat will send you confirmation to proceed with registration on the Nettuno platform.

To register as a composer, follow the registration procedure on Nettuno.

  • Composer-arranger fee € 300;
  • Musician-performer fee € 80.

Payment must be made through the Nettuno PA platform, using the QR code generated by Pago PA at the end of the registration process.

Places Available

  • 10 composer-arrangers: knowledge of basic writing techniques for jazz ensembles is required (block harmony, background, two- or three-part melody harmonization, writing for rhythm section, writing a score) and good use of music notation software. It is essential to bring your own computer to work with during the workshop.

Ensemble rehearsals will be an integral part of the workshop.

  • 20 musicians-performers: trumpet (2), trombone (2), saxophones (5), guitar (2), piano (2), double bass or electric bass (2), drums (2). Good sight-reading and good jazz performance and improvisation practice is required.

The management will evaluate any applications for other instruments such as: string instrument, additional wind instruments (flute, clarinet, horn, tuba etc.), accordion, chromatic harmonica, vibraphone, percussion.
