The candidate is expected to regularly submit chapters or chapter drafts to both the supervisor and co-supervisor as the research, development, and writing progress.

The candidate is required to write the thesis in clear, accurate, and lexically appropriate language. The weighted average is calculated by considering each grade in relation to its credit value—meaning that the more credits an exam carries, the more it contributes to the final average.

The calculation is done as follows: multiply each grade (out of 30) by the corresponding number of credits, sum all these results, and divide the total by the number of credits earned.
Example: The student has earned:
25/30 with 7 credits,
28/30 with 5 credits,
30/30 with 6 credits.
Calculation:
(25 × 7) + (28 × 5) + (30 × 6) = 175 + 140 + 180 = 495
Total credits: 7 + 5 + 6 = 18
Weighted average: 495 ÷ 18 = 27.5

To convert this to the 110-point scale, use the formula: 27.5 × 110 ÷ 30 = 100.83

At this stage, if the result exceeds the threshold of x.55, it is rounded up to the next whole number; otherwise, it is rounded down.
In this example, 100.83 is greater than 100.55, so it is rounded to 101, which is the final grade on the 110-point scale.

During the thesis defense, the Committee may add from 0 to 10 points to the grade derived from the weighted average. Each member of the Committee may award up to two points.
If the final grade reaches 110/110, the Committee may, at its discretion, award cum laude.

6. Regulations on Plagiarism (Copying) in the Thesis

Law no. 475 of April 19, 1925, which is still in force, states:

“Anyone who, during examinations or competitions required or requested by public authorities or administrations for the awarding of degrees or any other academic qualification, presents as their own dissertations, studies, publications, technical projects, or, in general, works created by others, shall be punished with imprisonment from three months to one year.”

The penalty is more severe if the degree is actually obtained through such means:

“Imprisonment shall not be less than six months if the objective is achieved.”

An additional consequence is the revocation of the degree, as specified in Article 5 of the law:

“The conviction or ruling that establishes the offense requires the annulment of any resulting academic qualification.”

Furthermore, the Italian Supreme Court, Criminal Section III, in ruling no. 18826 dated April 13 – May 12, 2011, clarified that a thesis that is described as a compilation but in reality consists mainly of the graphic reproduction of another author’s work, with minimal corrections and slight additions, and lacking any original contribution or critical assessment of the source used, constitutes the offense outlined in Article 1 of Law no. 475 of April 19, 1925. 475.

["post-18872","university","type-university","status-publish","hentry
<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.6 -
