Siena Jazz<\/strong> has been selected among the winners of the PNRR \u201cNext Generation EU<\/strong>\u201d call, promoted by the Italian Ministry of Universities and Research<\/strong>, with the JazzAble<\/strong> project.
The initiative was conceived and presented by the prestigious Siena institution and involves two leading partners: the G. Frescobaldi Conservatory<\/strong> of Ferrara<\/strong> and the CPM Music Institute<\/strong> of Milan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project was officially launched during this year\u2019s International Jazz Day<\/strong>, held in the Sala Sant\u2019Ansano<\/strong> at the Santa Maria della Scala Museum Complex<\/strong> in Siena<\/strong>. Among the speakers were Siena Jazz President Massimo Mazzini<\/strong>, General Director Marina Vermiglio<\/strong>, Conservatory Director Annamaria Maggese<\/strong>, CPM Educational Director Luca Nobis<\/strong>, and Siena Jazz Artistic Director Jacopo Guidi<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

International Jazz Day<\/strong> is a global celebration where artists and independent organizers from more than 190 countries present an extraordinary range of performances<\/em>, educational initiatives, and community events. Siena Jazz<\/strong> deliberately chose this symbolic occasion\u2014presided over by UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay<\/strong> and legendary pianist and composer Herbie Hancock<\/strong>, who stated that \u201cJazz has a spirit of openness that calls on us to look beyond our differences, not only breaking down barriers but also promoting peace\u201d. In many ways, JazzAble<\/strong> embodies this very vision. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With JazzAble<\/strong>, Siena Jazz<\/strong> strengthens its role as a driving force for cultural excellence, internationalization, and social inclusion, consolidating its position as a leading institution in the italian cultural landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Siena Jazz: Leading the Italian Image Abroad<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The PNRR funding represents a tangible recognition of Siena<\/strong> Jazz<\/strong>\u2019s artistic role and its ongoing commitment to promoting Italian culture worldwide. \u201cMy main thanks go to Minister Bernini<\/strong>,\u201d said Nicoletta Fabio, Mayor of Siena<\/strong>, \u201cwith whom I shared the urgency of Siena Jazz<\/strong>\u2019s participation in this call. Some may have criticized the speed of our recent appointments at Siena Jazz<\/strong>, but it was necessary in order to meet strict deadlines. I am very satisfied: this marks the beginning of a revival for one of our city\u2019s most vital institutions.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Massimo Mazzini<\/strong>, President<\/strong> of Siena Jazz<\/strong>, added: \u201cThis excellent result rewards not only our institution\u2019s efforts but those of the entire city, starting with the municipal administration. Now we must redouble our commitment, as our project makes clear: this is a success that will benefit the whole community. It is a promotion for everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marina Vermiglio<\/strong>, General Director<\/strong> of Siena Jazz<\/strong> and Project Manager,<\/em> explained: \u201cInternationalization and access to funding were central to Siena Jazz<\/strong>\u2019s relaunch. Even though the Ministry opened the call back in July 2023, it was only a week before the deadline that we were able to finalize a concrete proposal, thanks to the push of our new board. This outcome shows that we responded to last summer\u2019s turbulence with results. We are extremely proud and aware of the great work ahead.\u201d

The project, made possible by this significant funding, aims to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Strengthen Siena Jazz\u2019s international network <\/strong>and expand collaborations with
conservatories and cultural institutions worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Promote student<\/strong> and faculty mobility<\/strong>, making international opportunities more
inclusive and accessible. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Organize world-class events <\/strong>that will bring Siena and Italy onto prestigious global
stages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Boost the local and national impact<\/strong>, attracting tourism, creating job opportunities,
and enhancing the region\u2019s cultural and artistic heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Specific objectives include:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Creating new professional opportunities for AFAM graduates.
\u2022 Strengthening networking among students and young artists.
\u2022 Developing research projects and PhD programs in jazz improvisation and popular
music in Italy.
\u2022 Expanding international mobility.
\u2022 Encouraging new artistic productions and works.
\u2022 Promoting contemporary Italian musical heritage.
\u2022 Enhancing interdisciplinarity and inclusion, especially for women in the sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

JazzAble also envisions a wide set of concrete actions, including:<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 J-International House<\/strong>: a permanent observatory on AFAM (Higher Education in Art and Music) musical studies.
\u2022 J-Hub<\/strong>: training programs for recent graduates, a spin-off program for young artists, and a digital platform for international mobility and cooperation.
\u2022 J-table<\/strong>: focus groups on artistic research projects and doctoral program development.
\u2022 J-Bridge<\/strong>: partnerships linking research and artistic production with non-European
institutions.
\u2022 J-Ab Fest<\/strong>: a cultural festival to showcase Italian excellence.
\u2022 J-Art<\/strong>: new interdisciplinary artistic productions.
\u2022 J-W, \u201cNo woman no Art\u201d<\/strong>: initiatives supporting women\u2019s inclusion in the AFAM
sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The press conference concluded with a Blind-Concert<\/strong>, a free<\/strong> event<\/strong> featuring Siena Jazz<\/strong> students Matteo Addabbo<\/strong> (Hammond organ), Anna Nicotra<\/strong> (piano), and Gabriele Peretti<\/strong> (drums). The<\/strong> performance, held<\/strong> in total<\/em> darkness, offered audiences a profoundly different listening experience\u2014immersing them in sound, amplifying sensory perception, and highlighting diversity and inclusion. Blind and visually impaired musicians also participated, supported by innovative audio technologies that Siena Jazz<\/strong> has long been committed to developing, now extended through the Blind-Tag project.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
