The commitments and responsibilities included in this document aim to create and strengthen spaces that support fair treatment for all individuals, regardless of their identity and\/or affiliation\u2014including gender identity, race, age, differing abilities, ethnicity, culture, immigration status, sexual or political orientation, social class, economic background, or religious beliefs. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><strong>Have you ever directly experienced or witnessed harassment and felt it wasn\u2019t safe or appropriate to speak up?<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><strong>If you are in a position of power, how have you responded to reports of harassment?<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This code provides clarity and tools for everyone working in the performing arts.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><strong>How can we commit to creating (more) safe workplaces in the<\/strong> <strong>performing arts?\u202f <\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><strong>What is a (more) safe space?<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A (more) safe space* is a healthy, balanced environment where all individuals feel valued and respected.\u202f <br\/>*The term \u201c(more) safe\u201d acknowledges that safety is subjective and varies based on individual identity and orientation.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">*The term \u201c(more) safe\u201d acknowledges that safety is subjective and varies based on individual identity and orientation.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> <strong><strong>How is sexual harassment defined by law?<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sexual harassment in the workplace is prohibited by law. It occurs when employment or specific working conditions are made contingent upon the acceptance of unwanted sexual behavior. Sexual harassment in a hostile work environment arises when any form of unwanted sexual behavior creates an unsafe work environment.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><strong>What is a workplace<\/strong>?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A workplace, whether physical or virtual, may include, among others: stages, dressing rooms, offices, recording studios, classrooms, venues, jam sessions, workshops, residencies, rehearsal spaces, home studios, hotel rooms, art galleries, and digital communication platforms\u2014whenever professional performance is involved.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What is consent?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Consent is a clear and transparent agreement to engage in a specific activity. It is communicated openly through mutually understandable words or actions. Consent is mutual and free from power imbalance. Minors, by definition, cannot give consent. Anyone under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or other substances is unable to give valid consent.    <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What affects consent?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Force, which may be physical, psychological, or emotional. Examples include: grabbing, touching, manipulating, self-exposure, aggressively holding someone, using weapons, verbal threats, blackmail, blaming, group pressure, stalking, or coercion. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Power dynamics in relationships such as employer\/employee, teacher\/student, bandleader\/collaborator, artistic director\/artist, producer\/artist, promoter\/artist, agent\/artist, booking agency\/artist, artist\/audience, etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Abuse of power, when individuals use their position to control, manipulate, or take advantage of others. Prestige, seniority, institutional influence, or economic power do not justify oppressive or abusive behavior. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>SPEAK UP, SEEK SUPPORT, OR ASK FOR HELP<\/strong> \u202fwhen you witness, experience, or suspect any form of harassment. Your silence could enable abuse. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CREATE STRATEGIES<\/strong> and\/or identify people in your workplace who can provide support when needed, ensuring those who have been harmed feel safe speaking out without fear of retaliation. Listen and respond in ways that protect and support those who come forward. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CLEARLY COMMUNICATE<\/strong> anti-abuse policies and protocols to employees, collaborators, and colleagues at the beginning of any professional relationship.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>WORK COLLABORATIVELY<\/strong> to combat bias and stereotypes. Actively strive to eliminate them and reduce their impact. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>PROMOTE DIVERSITY<\/strong> in roles such as curator, bandleader, director, producer, journalist, audience member, artist, and within foundations, associations, institutions, and nonprofit organizations. Everyone benefits when performing arts spaces foster variety and inclusion across gender, age, sexual orientation, race, culture, nationality, social class, economic background, religion, and differing abilities. <br\/><br\/><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Gender Equality Plan 2024\u20132027<\/strong><br\/><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <em>Gender Equality Plan<\/em> (GEP) is a strategic tool aimed at ensuring equal opportunities and full participation of all people in academic and professional life, regardless of gender. Through concrete and measurable actions, the three-year plan aims to promote gender balance in research, teaching, administration and careers, helping to create an inclusive and sustainable environment for the entire academic community. We hereby announce that the Board of Directors of Siena Jazz, at its meeting on 25\/10\/2024, approved the <em>Gender Equality Plan<\/em> 2024-2027. Siena Jazz confirms its mission with regard to the objectives of inclusion and protection of all forms of diversity.
