Siena Jazz Big Band
Musical Formation Courses
This course takes place from october to june with three hour long weekly classes: tuesday evening from 9pmto 12am. The course is for young musicians with a knowledge of jazz, blues, funky, latin or jazz-rock music.
The orchestra is presently formed of 22 elements and directed by a nationally reknown instructor, the saxophone player, composer and arranger, Klaus Lessmann. The instructor is a reknown and respected jazz musician with ample orchestra and musical experience and numerous recordings.
The Siena Jazz Big Band, whose formation began with the first Big Band course in 1994, is composed of a group of young musicians from the sienese province. Its goal is the creation of a permanent orchestral group in our city, capable of executing scores from the afro-american tradition.
Each year ,the Siena Jazz Foundation together with the Municipality of Siena, the Provincial Administration and all of the regional Municipalities, organize Siena Jazz Big Band concerts to promote jazz music and all modern music derived from it throughout the years.
This type of repertory is extremely varied , purposely in line with the jazz tradition and pleasing to all.
In 2001 the GOP-Siena Jazz Big Band's first compact disc published by "Le Carrozze records" in collaboration with the Siena Jazz Foundation was released, entitled "GOP-Siena jazz Big band". In 2003, the second work was released, entitled "Abstrutions". For enrollment and information contact the secretary of the Foundation:
