The Siena jazz Big band course consists of a continuation of the “GOP” project. The GOP was the first permanent orchestral formation in the Siena jazz Foundation. Founded in october 1994, varying from 18-22 elements, its scope was to establish, in Siena, a large musical formation that could perform music from the afro-american tradition. Participation is through audition with the band director, Klaus Lessmann. The Siena jazz Big Band rehearses each tuesday evening from 9pm to 11:30pm. The Orchestra has performed in numerous occasions with great success and continues its journey through the vast territory of the jazz tradition.
Student’s public performances, for those accepted into courses of ensemble music, will be organized once monthly from dicembre to may. The groups formed during the courses,if sufficently prepared, will perform in a final concert at the Rozzi Theater at the end of the courses. All groups performing at the Theater, if they have regularly attended their course and at the decision of each teacher, will record some pieces in a Cd as testimonial to their work. Each group of Ensemble Music will however have the opportunity to record some of the pieces that they have studied during the lessons..
This is a group of students under twenty-one whose goal is to study a repertory of modern rhythms that touches on contemporary music, a true “cross over” orchestra. This formation represents the young students in the Siena Jazz Foundation in Tuscany and Italy, performing in recitals and concerts.
Admissions are therefore for young musicians under 21, at their first approach with music, enrolled in the regular courses for musical formation, either with or without scholarship.
