This project intends to complete the level of didactical programs that the Association has organized for over 20 years for young musicians. It is a series of introductory courses to jazz and to the contemporary musical styles deriving from jazz. The courses are also open to beginners who wish to initiate a correct approach to the instrument and who are interested in improvisation. We also accept enrollment of preconstituted groups (min. 4 elements) who wish to examine and perfect their previous experience.

The permanent laboratory for musical research, born in 1996, has assembled, from then, about sixty musicians of different musical, cultural, and geographic extraction. The Laboratory is inspired by the demand to create an ideal trait d'union between the final phase of the musical studies, that usually coincides with the detachment from teachers, schools and academies, and the professional activity.

SIENA JAZZ BIG BAND

This course is particularly indicated for students from Siena and the surrounding area. It takes place from october to june with three hour long weekly classes: tuesday evening from 9pmto 12am. The course is for young musicians with a knowledge of jazz, blues, funky, latin or jazz-rock music. The orchestra is presently formed of 22 elements and directed by a nationally reknown instructor, the saxophone player, composer and arranger, Klaus Lessmann.

E' un corso speciale che, negli ultimi anni, si è occupato in particolare di musica e cultura afro-brasiliana dando vita ad una piccola orchestra percussivo-strumentale denominata "Labirinto". Il gruppo, diretto dal chitarrista Roberto Nannetti, propone un repertorio legato alla cultura afro-brasiliana, brani e ritmi della tradizione popolare e d'autore. Musiche da ascoltare ma soprattutto da ballare come è tipico di queste culture. Le canzoni sono eseguite in lingua portoghese e brasiliana.

The Siena Jazz Foundation, in collaboration with Siena’s Museum of Art for children, has organized an innovative musical project for youths between 9 and 14 years old. The project is based on the formation of the "Peter Pan Orchestra" to be created during the "Juvenile Musical Laboratory". The Peter Pan Orchestra is the first project in this city for the formation of an orchestra for young people and represents a wonderful didactic vehicle for approaching modern music.

The student that intends to undertake the program for attaining the Siena Jazz Diploma must successfully pass an interview establishing his competence in technique and theory and placing him in the appropriate level. The program developed at Siena Jazz generally lasts five years and never less than three. Each year an exam covering all the subjects in the program must be successfully passed.
